Central Florida Vocal Arts Presents Sunday In The Park With George

ORLANDO, FL – [October 2, 2025] – Central Florida Vocal Arts continues its 2025–2026 Season, Picture Perfect: Idealism on Stage, with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, Sunday in the Park with George, November 7-9, 2025, at the Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. This intimate production brings to life one of the most celebrated musicals of the 20th century.

Inspired by Georges Seurat’s pointillist painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, the musical follows Seurat’s fictionalized counterpart, George, as he struggles to balance his devotion to his work with his relationship to his muse and lover, Dot. As the story unfolds across two acts, Sunday in the Park with George challenges audiences to consider the sacrifices and triumphs that come with the act of creation. Featuring Sondheim’s exquisite score—including “Finishing the Hat,” “Move On,” and the soaring “Sunday”.

“This show is a love letter to the creative process,” says CFVA Founder and Executive Director Theresa Smith-Levin. “It reminds us that behind every brushstroke and every note is a very real human artist shaping how we see the world—and one another. This is exactly the kind of musically challenging and soul-stirring work CFVA exists to share with Central Florida.”

Returning to direct is Ayofemi Demps, whose CFVA production of The Light in the Piazza was hailed for its musical elegance and emotional resonance. Maura Sitzmann makes her company debut as Music Director and leading the cast are Chase Williams as George, last seen in CFVA’s production of Dracula, and Bee Gutierrez as Dot, bringing depth and emotional honesty to one of Sondheim’s most complex heroines. They are joined by an ensemble cast of talented artists, company regulars and new faces alike.

This production is supported in part by generous sponsors Orange County Arts and Cultural Affairs and United Arts of Central Florida and presented with minimalistic staging to highlight Sondheim’s intricate score and Lapine’s poetic book. The Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater’s intimate setting allows audiences to experience the production up close—every note, every word, every brushstroke.
